Approximately 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland were left experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms passed over the area, bringing powerful gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Substantial Hailstones and Extensive Impact

Residents witnessed substantial frozen pellets as large as 7 centimeters in particular locations. Weather authorities verified that multiple regions across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Emergency crews were working to restore power throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews activated to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Moist weather were expected to linger along much of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tuesday was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing severe weather risk anticipated across different parts of both areas.

Medical Alert

Public health experts warned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This warning comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to major medical consequences in the area.
