Wimbledon Introduces Video Review Technology in 2025.

The Championships court with replay technology

The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in utilizing video review technology.

Video review technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.

Athletes are granted the option to question specific rulings from the chair umpire, mirroring the system already in operation at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.

This innovation will be operational on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles matches.

This development arrives only a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding role of line judges.

Scope of Challenges

Players cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific situations, such as:

  • If a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
  • Possible interference end of a point.

Importantly, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.

A Recent Example

A recent incident occurred in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a tough call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."

The umpire viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Growing Trend

This technology are not exclusive to Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at all of its events.

Additional Innovations

Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the introduction of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This solves situations where fans have sometimes been unsure whether a ball was in or out.

In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have also revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
